Opera House Youth Actors 2024 Season

 

The Opera House Youth Actors are now accepting applications for our expanding Youth Theater program!

OHYA is an award-winning team of dedicated young actors who desire an intensive performing arts experience. Our teams are led by Abigail Grigg, Caitlin Marshall, Trevor Winder, Grant Turner, Misty Hines, and Freddie G Fellow Terry Hale, along with several special guest instructors. 

Each OHYA team rehearses seasonally to prepare for their performance tour experience. We are looking for students and parents who have an appreciation and passion for a quality theatrical experience.  In exchange for top-quality musical theater training, our touring OHYA team members make significant time and financial commitments.
 

We are currently accepting applications for OHYA! Winter/Spring and Summer/Fall Seasons (ages 9-19)
and our new group OHYA! Spirit (ages 7 to 9 see below).

 

OHYA! Disney Experience - Trip Overview (ages 9 -19): 

Throughout the season, OHYA! members will attend lessons, workshops, and intensives to develop and improve their performance skills.  Workshops include specialized training in music, dance, and acting techniques as well as mindset coaching to help manage the demands of performing.  During the season, members of the OHYA! team will also learn and participate in the creation of a 20- to 30-minute musical theater set which will be performed in various settings including their tour through the intermountain-west and Southern California.

This year we will have two OHYA! Seasons:
Winter/Spring
: Rehearsals mid-November through March. Trip -  March 5th-10th, Tuesday through Sunday.

Summer/Fall: Rehearsals mid-June through October. Trip -  October 15-20, Tuesday through Sunday.
**Students are not required to tour on both trips.

 

Both trips include Food, hotels, airfare, bus expenses, Tickets for two professional theater musical production experiences, workshops, Disney performance, Disney park hopper entrance tickets, costumes/uniforms, OHYA shirts, Tech needed for performance and travel, facility fees, Training/coaching from teachers and guests. 
 

Tuition and Trip Cost Per Season:

Cost per Student: $2,700
 

March 2024 Trip Payment Schedule:
A non-refundable deposit of $300 is required upon acceptance to reserve your spot. Non-refundable monthly payments of $480 will begin in October and continue through February. Detailed payment dates will be provided in a calendar format.
 

October 2024 Trip Payment Schedule:
A non-refundable deposit of $300 is required upon acceptance to reserve your spot. Non-refundable monthly payments of $200 will begin in October 2023 and continue through September 2024. Detailed payment dates will be provided in a calendar format.

Minimum Participants: We need a minimum of 32 students to make each trip possible. If we are not able to reach the 32-student minimum, we will either modify the trip or cancel the trip. If the trip is cancelled we will return all funds that have been paid. 

 

Chaperones:

We will need at least 6 chaperones to accompany us on each trip (more are welcome).
Chaperone Cost: $2000

Cost covers your trip expenses

 

Eligibility:

Applicants must be between the ages of 9 and 19.
We will interview each applicant and parent to ensure that the student and parents are aware of the time and financial commitment required.

 

We will also assess the student's aptitude in singing, dancing, and general stage presence to ensure that the student will be able to meet the general skill level required for our performance.
 

Additional Opportunities:

OHYA members are highly encouraged to audition for Opera House mainstage shows and will be given casting priority if they have met OHYA  team standards.  Upcoming shows include Anastasia,  Big Fish, and other mainstage productions. 
 

Each OHYA group will have special “Call-out” performances at schools and other venues. Students will miss some school days to accommodate these performances.
 

OHYA students will be given leadership opportunities at our annual Summer Theater Camp. This experience can be the highlight of a student's Summer. 

 

Payment Options:

We accept cash, check, and credit card payments for your convenience.

 

Tax Deductible Donations:

Friends of the Opera House is a non-profit organization under tax code 501(c)(3), making your contributions tax-deductible. If you would like to solicit donations to help scholarship your child's trip, we can accommodate you. 

 

Rehearsal Schedule:

Rehearsals will be held on:

Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM
Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM (unless longer rehearsals are needed)
(Rehearsals in June- August may be scheduled during the day to coordinate with our Summer Camp rehearsals).

OHYA Spirit 
is a group of dedicated young actors ages 7 to 9 years old.  This group meets a minimum of 2 times a week for approximately 4 months in the spring (March through June.)

 

Throughout the season, OHYA Spirit members will attend lessons, workshops, and intensives to develop and improve their performance skills.  Workshops include specialized training in music, dance, and acting techniques as well as mindset coaching to help manage the demands of performing.  During the season, members of the OHYA Spirit team will also learn and participate in the creation of a 15-to-20-minute musical theater set which will be performed in various settings. 

 

The OHYA Spirit season culminates in an overnight trip (TBA) that includes professional workshops and performances.  OHYA spirit members are highly encouraged to audition for Opera House mainstage shows and will be given casting priority if they have met OHYA Spirit team standards.
 

Tuition and Trip Cost Per Season:

Cost per Student: $1600
Cost per parent: Trip expenses (TBA)

OHYA Spirit Trip Payment Schedule:

A non-refundable deposit of $300 is required upon acceptance to reserve your spot. Non-refundable monthly payments of $217 will begin in October 2023 and continue through April 2024. Detailed payment dates will be provided in a calendar format.
 

Each student must have one parent or guardian to chaperone the overnight trip. Parent/guardian is required to pay for their own travel expenses, due May 15.
 

Rehearsal Schedule:

Rehearsals will be held on:

Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM
Some Saturday mornings as needed.
